It’s been only 5 years since our first tango concert featuring the fabulous Joaquin ALMENABAR playing solo at our old venue in High Street Ken. Now, we bring you one of the most important tango orchestras of all time.

The format of the evenings is that of a normal milonga with live music and dance demos. You will be able to either sit and listen to the music or dance the night away to this truly top class tango live act.

On Thursday 9, we are also hosting COLOR TANGO MUSIC SEMINAR FOR DANCERS: The tango and his evolution (1880-1955). Stages and styles.  The seminar is a must to anyone iterested in tango music, dance, history and culture (See below for further info). All classes on Friday 10 are on as normal.

ABOUT COLOR TANGO

Led  by bandoleon MAESTRO Roberto ALVAREZ – main bandoneon player in the orchestra of the late Osvaldo PUGLIESE –  Orquestra COLOR TANGO are the purest exponents of the so-called Decareana School, which begun in the mid-1920’s and was later developed by great masters such as Alfredo Gobbi and principally Osvaldo Pugliese. Romantic and full of expressive force, tango evolved within this school during the Golden Age of the 40s with a treatment of arrangements which was both agile and open to innovation.

In the same way, new compositions incorporated into the repertoire of the orchestra bring with them renewed interests, which help to produce a distinct expressive maturity whilst keeping up with tango’s aesthetic tradition.

ABOUT COLOR TANGO SEMINAR

The tango and his evolution (1880-1955). Stages and styles.

COLOR TANGO have developed a Music Seminar for Tango Dancers. It is a Workshop that lasts 1:45 hrs. The goal of this workshop is to explain the birth of the tango and his developing as a musical genre, considering the different stages of his evolution and describing the social situation in each age from 1880 to 1955. The stages are:  “Prehistory”,“Old Guard”, “Canonic Tango Stage” and “The 40’s Guard”.

The narration is intercalated with musical examples in which we show the different ways of playing including, solos, duets, trios, quartets, sextet,s and orchestras like De Caro, Fresedo, D’Arienzo, Troilo, Pugliese. We also play the early tango with guitar and clarinet in old style.

This workshop is not a dance class. Its objective is instead to make the participants learn some characteristics of the musical genre they use to dance by finding the keys of the tango evolution and also dancing music from different stages and styles during the class. The attendants can listen, dance or both, all the musical examples. All the musicians of the orchestra participate in the workshop and they explain specific characteristics of their instruments related to the genre.
